Because the days are still cold, we are still mixing up hot drinks. Quick hot chocolate cups are not difficult to prepare and deliver the quickest, sweetest food gift ever. Your friends are going to wonder why they didn’t think of doing this!

The Difference Between Cocoa and Chocolate

I had never really wondered if there was a difference between these two. If you do a little Google search as I did, you will find that hot cocoa is made with cocoa powder mixed with hot water, milk and sugar. Hot chocolate is melted and mixed with warmed milk. So, here is my easy recipe for a fun and quick hot drink that can be saved for later, made now, or give as a New Year’s gift!
Quick hot chocolate cups are really quick to make, and you only need 3 ingredients. However, only 2 ingredients are needed if you don’t want to add the peppermint or any crushed candy. When finished, you simply pop one into 8 oz. of warm milk when you’d like a cup of hot cocoa. 
Quick Hot Cocoa Cups

Just heat up 8-10 oz. of milk and drop one in!  You can store them in an airtight container, or freeze them and take one out when needed.

Quick hot chocolate cups make perfect gifts for neighbors or friends. Package in pretty cellophane wrap and add a tag.

Description

Quick hot chocolate cups can be made up in a minutes. Great for gifts or just ready to go hot chocolate!


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups mini marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candy (optional)
  • paper muffin liners

Instructions

1. Melt 2 1/2 cups semi-sweet, milk chocolate or dark chocolate chips in a saucepan over low heat, or in the microwave. Don't burn, just heat until the chocolate is warm enough to stir smooth.
2. Line a muffin pan with pretty muffin liners.
3. Spoon about 2-3 tbsp. of melted chocolate into each cup (create a little swirl with the spoon to make it pretty!)
4. Sprinkle each with mini marshmallows and crushed peppermint candy or crushed chocolate-covered toffee pieces for a little bit of taste change.
Put one cup into 8 oz. of warm milk. Delicious and quick!
Chill in the refrigerator until firm. Put a few in some pretty winter treat bags for a gift, perhaps with some extra marshmallows! Keep extras stored in an air-tight container.
