Description
These Cheesy, Spicy Breadsticks are a quick and delicious snack or appetizer, and they can be made with homemade or store-bought puff pastry. Here’s an easy recipe to make them
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 egg
- 2 TBSP water
- 1/4 c. flour for parchment paper and dusting
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup finely shredded cheddar (white or yellow)
- 3 tsp. finely minced garlic
- 2 tsp. chopped fresh rosemary
- 1 tsp. sea salt
- 1 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 1 tsp. chili powder
- 1 tsp. onion powder
- 1 tsp. crushed pepper flakes
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375°
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1 large egg and 2 tbsp. water.
- Mix all of the other ingredients in a separate bowl. Combine well.
- On floured parchment paper, open the thawed puff pastry dough very carefully, dusting the top with a little extra flour.
- Roll out the dough to be about 10 x 12 inches on the parchment paper.
- If it’s easier, now place the parchment with the rolled-out dough onto your baking sheet.
- Brush the dough with a very generous amount of the egg mixture.
- Take one-half of the cheese and herb mixture and spread evenly over the dough. Press the mixture down into the dough a bit.
- Using a pizza or pastry cutter, cut the dough into 1” strips.
- Turn the strips so they lay herb side down on the baking sheet, then twist the dough.
- Bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes
I found that the straws show more of the yummy filling if you lay them on the tray filling side down and then twist.
They reheat nicely, wrapped in foil at 200 degrees for a few minutes. You can also freeze them to reheat later.
